سلسلة‮ “‬ما وراء الكون‮” ‬للناشر اللبناني‮ ‬زهير بعلبكي‮ ‬هي‮ ‬أول سلسلة شرائط مصورة‮ (‬كومكس‮) ‬عربية اختصّت بالخيال العلمي‮. ‬

وهذه السلسلة كانت السبّاقة في‮ ‬تقديم مغامرات الأنيمي‮ (‬الرسوم المتحركة اليابانية‮) ‬غرندايزر،‮
‬وذلك في‮ ‬عددها رقم‮ تسعة و عشرين و الذي‮ ‬صدر في‮ ٦١‮ ‬شباط‮ ٠٨٩١‭.‬

ولهذه المناسبة،‮ ‬سيوقّع هنري‮ ‬ماتيوس كتابه عن تاريخ سلسلة‮ “‬ما وراء الكون‮”. ‬
وسيترافق الحفل مع معرض لأجمل أغلفة‮ ‬غرندايزر بالعربية،‮ ‬من مجموعات هنري‮ ‬ماتيوس‮.‬

ويروي‮ ‬ماتيوس في‮ ‬كتابه عن سلسلة‮ “‬ما وراء الكون”الصعوبات والنجاحات التي‮ ‬رافقت السلسلة في‮ ‬خضمّ‮ ‬الحرب اللبنانية ويقول إن‮

“‬ما وراء الكون‮” ‬كانت تجربة صحفية من نوع جديد للناشر الجريء زهير بعلبكي‮ ‬الذي‮ ‬اهتمّ‮ ‬بتميّز منشوراته أكثر من اهتمامه بمردودها المادي‮ ‬وكان‮ ‬يطبع فقط بضع مئات من النسخ من كل عدد رغم علمه أن هذه الكميات الضئيلة لا‮ ‬يُمكن أن تعود بربح‮ ‬يُذكر‮.‬

وكتاب تاريخ سلسلة‮ “‬ما وراء الكون‮” ‬هو الأول في‮ ‬سلسلة‮ “‬نجوم الكومكس العربي‮” ‬التي‮ ‬يصدرها ماتيوس‮. ‬

والكتاب القادم سيكون عن تاريخ الطبعة العربية لمجلة‮ “‬لولو الصغيرة‮”.‬

Henry Matthews’ passion for comics:

In parallel to his passion for painting, Henry worked in the local comics industry for many years. Henry’s love affair with comics shows in his artwork.

Henry’s passion for art began as a kid growing up in Beirut. He saw, then the first comic book in his life:issue number 7 of Bissat El-Reeh بساطالريح (flying carpet in Arabic). The cover, by Bahiga Tomassian, featured Aladdin on a magic horse above the clouds in a beautiful blue sky. The beauty of this cover made him love drawing, colors and lines.

In 1978, a fresh arts student, Henry worked with the publisher of Bissat El-Reeh. Later on, he worked with the publisher of the Arabic editions of Superman, Batman and Little Lulu, introducing new concepts in Arabic comics publications.

In 2010, Henry authored and published the “Encyclopedia of Lebanese Comics” in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the UNESCO’s World Book Capital initiative.

Henry never forgot his astronaut’s dream and strove to document space exploration. In the early 1990s, he wrote his 370-page book: “Encyclopedia of Rocket Aircraft and Space Shuttles” which was co-winner of the Best Arabic Scientific Book Award from the Kuwaiti Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.

Henry was awarded the Yuri Gagarin Medal.
